Today, I am pleased to share that Ciroos has joined the Open Weights and American AI Leadership coalition. At Ciroos, our foundational belief is that customers deserve maximum choice over a walled garden. We build products on a mix of closed and open weight models, selecting whichever is best suited to the task at hand. This architecture isn’t incidental; it reflects a deliberate commitment to putting our customers’ needs ahead of any single provider’s ecosystem.
The Importance of Open Weight Models
These aren’t abstract principles; they shape every product decision we make. Open weight models are central to that philosophy in several concrete ways:
- Task-appropriate intelligence. No single model architecture is optimal for every use case. Open weight models give us, and by extension our customers, access to specialized, fine-tunable capabilities that proprietary models often cannot match. Without them, we would be forced to over-fit our customers’ workflows to a model’s constraints rather than the other way around.
- Customer control and data sovereignty. Many of our customers operate in regulated industries or have strict requirements around where their data is processed. Open weight models make on-premises and private-cloud deployment possible. Closed models make it impossible. The ability to run inference entirely within a customer’s own environment is not a nice-to-have; it is a requirement for a significant portion of the market.
- A competitive, innovative ecosystem. Healthy AI markets require that multiple players can build, adapt, and compete. When model weights are open, innovation compounds across the entire industry. Ciroos benefits from that dynamism every day, and we believe it ultimately benefits American technological leadership globally.
- Resilience and security. Relying exclusively on proprietary, closed models creates concentration risk for individual companies and for the country. Open weights allow vulnerabilities to be found and fixed broadly, and they ensure that no single failure point can take down critical AI-dependent systems.
Contributors to Open Source
We are not just consumers of open source work; we are contributors to it. Ciroos is a Silver Member of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), and one of our engineers is the primary contributor to Project Sveltos, an open source Kubernetes add-on management platform in the CNCF ecosystem. Even as a startup, we have made giving back a core part of how we operate because we believe sustainable open ecosystems require active participation, not passive consumption. We intend to bring that same ethos to the open weight AI community.
We are proud to be building in an era where the open weight movement has gained institutional momentum from the Linux Foundation to NVIDIA, Hugging Face, Cisco, and many others. Ciroos is honored to add our name to this coalition and to stand alongside companies that understand AI’s promise is best realized when it is open, accessible, and competitive.
